The Visual Lawyer

Waking up your ability to think and communicate visually

Why It Matters

Lawyers live by words. But a well-designed visual can do something words rarely manage: make a complex legal argument immediately understandable and memorable.

Legal design should not be reserved for professional designers or creative agencies. We all have the ability to think and communicate visually. Most lawyers have simply never been given the tools to develop it.

This training wakes up the designer in you. Not to turn you into an artist, but to give you command of visual grammar and develop your ability to translate legal reasoning into shapes, diagrams, and charts that create clarity where words alone would struggle.

Building your legal design skills will make you a more effective communicator, set you apart, and make your legal advice clearer and more convincing.

Content

Participants will discover the six disciplines of the visual lawyer:

Who Should Attend

This training is open to all lawyers, regardless of their role, seniority, or practice area. No design background is required.

The one condition for success is not a skill but a disposition: a genuine curiosity and willingness to try something different. Participants who get the most out of this training are those who come with an open mind and work in an environment that encourages, or at least allows, a visual approach to legal communication.

If you are not sure whether your organisation is ready for this, that is a good question to explore in a conversation with Antoine before booking.

Format and Options

A half-day or full-day session, available in three versions depending on your needs:

Generic
The training is built around examples and exercises drawn from real legal practice, covering a wide range of situations.

Custom
We adapt the content to your own practice. We use examples and exercises that resonate with the specific context of your practice. This makes the training immediately relevant to your day-to-day reality.

Custom + workshop
In addition to the course, we work together on a real legal design project. Before the workshop, we will identify an area of your work where having a visual tool would make a real difference, and we will design it together. This might be, for example, visual templates for frequent transactions, the visual display of a complex compliance or governance procedure, or a risk management board.

Available in English, French, and Dutch.

Fees are quoted individually following a conversation with Antoine.
